Welcome to Zonta Club of Victoria BC
The Zonta Victoria Club was chartered in April 1968. Our charter president was Phoebe Noble, Dean of Math at the University of Victoria, ardent gardener known for her geraniums and assistance in redesigning flower beds at Govenment House. Phoebe Noble was also asked to be an observer at the UN.
The club originally met for their monthly dinner meeting at the Strathcona Hotel and over the years, met at several other locations currently meeting at the University Club of Victoria. Our members have always been very active in service to the community as well as generously meeting our international commitments. We have had members who were active at the district and international level. We usually have a good representation at District Conferences and International Conventions.
In 1977, we initiated the first ever district project, a scholorship for a girl to attend Pearson College. This has since grown into the Zonta Endowment at Pearson College.
We are proud that in 2002 the Zonta International Foundation awarded our club a $25,000.00 grant to assist Rock Solid in the startup of their "WITS" programme and we have continued to support this programme. WITS has had very positive results in BC schools, reducing violence.
