The Zonta Club of Victoria has elected me as President, and I thank them.  I will work hard to serve the club and the goals of Zonta International.  I look forward to working with our club members and together we will build on the success of the past and implement new ideas to achieve these goals.

I joined Zonta in 1994 and have enjoyed and learned from every aspect of the club.  It has given me the opportunity to grow, to stretch my capabilities, to try new things and to meet with and work with wonderful women.

Oak Bay Mayor Christopher Causton perhaps best captured Zonta when he stated "Zontians are smart women doing good work".

Our current membership of 31 business and professional women bring a wide variety of experience and knowledge to the club.  Their backgrounds range from legal, science and education, through banking, investments and health care, to business owners, artists and entrepeneurs.  This diversity of members within our club combined with their shared core values is what makes our club unique.

Why do we join Zonta?  Because the lack of basic rights and opportunities of women around the world are still far from satisfactory.  Women make up 75 percent of the world's poor and illiterate.  Sixty million women are dead or missing because of violence and gender discrimination.  Over 4 million young girls worldwide are bought and sold for the sex trade.

There are 1,200 Zonta clubs in 67 countries whose members work and support projects to eradicate these problems.  Our club is proud of the part we play in improving the status of women and children in our community and internationally.

I welcome you to find out more about our wonderful organization and I invite you to come to our meetings, socials, fun and fund-raising events.  Contact us at zontavictoria@yahoo.ca
