Cecile Turrall: Warm Up Vancouver Island
biography by Mary Eshenko
CECILE TURRALL a member of Zonta Victoria Club for over 20 years, has held executive roles, served on numerous committees and has led the way in organizing and coordinating the Zonta Warm Up Vancouver Island Project. This Project is a huge success and, more importantly, a blessing that has provided comfort and warmth to the homeless at Our Place, foreign students at Pearson College and attracted media attention when Hospice became the grateful recipient of colorful blankets and wraps, handmade with loving care, by a team of volunteers Cecile recruited.
Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, the youngest of four children, whose mother died when she was fourteen. Left largely on her own, it was necessary for Cecile to work for her room and board, in order to complete her high school education. Cecile earned pocket money working part time at Woolworth’s. Cecil decided, “to excel” and achieved top marks in her senior pin year. Cecile’s decision to excel in high school was only the beginning of her many accomplishments. In her career, Cecile’s decision “to excel” served her well. As a woman in business, making her way in the world, in the male dominated world of financial advising and real estate, she became a top-notch producer and peak performer. Her determination and commitment to succeed have been her guiding lights. Cecile has been recognized and has received awards for her efforts.
At 85 years of age, Cecile wants to “get off the director’s chair”: she wants to “let go” of being in control, achieving results and making things happen. Cecile is exploring ways of being that contribute to the greater good, from a gentler, less demanding place. Cecile was raised Christian and is discovering healing, health and well being from a softer, more loving Spiritual space. Cecile has decided that anxiety and depression “ain’t for sissies” and aims to achieve excellence from new perspectives. |
