The Zonta Club of Victoria is part of Zonta International,  a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women. Over 30,000 individuals are members of more than 1,200 Zonta clubs in over 65 countries. The word Zonta means “honest and trustworthy.”  Zonta was founded in 1919 in Buffalo, New York, USA.  With the formation of the Zonta Club of Toronto in 1927, Zonta became an international organization. Throughout Zonta International’s history, improving the lives of women by enhancing their education, health, and socioeconomic status.  Zonta says NO to violence against women.  In effecting positive change in women’s lives, Zonta has been a motivating force. Through service projects and advocacy events, Zonta International and individual Zonta clubs are laying the groundwork for women to achieve not just their personal goals but to improve conditions for women worldwide.

Mission & Vision

Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to empower women worldwide through service and advocacy. “Zonta” derives from the Lakota Sioux word meaning  “Honest and Trustworthy”.  Zonta Victoria follows the mission of Zonta International seeking to:

• improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women;

• work for the advancement of understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of executives in business and the professions;

• promote justice and universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms; and

• be united internationally to foster high ethical standards, implement service programs, and provide mutual support and fellowship for members who serve their communities, their nations, and the world.
